After three years of work, this project has finally taken on a life of its own. It first travelled to Sabile, and since April 23, the exhibition has been on view in Riga at ISSP Gallery. The opening was accompanied by a performance created together with the Butoh Lab team — special thanks to Sarma for the soundscape, and to everyone who supported the process along the way.

The exhibition marks the closing chapter of a long-term body of work that, more than a project, has been a lived experience and a life period for me. It reflects on the bonds we create with our loved ones, our relationship with the world around us, and the importance of staying connected to ourselves in an increasingly anxious and fast-moving time.

The exhibition and the book created alongside it bring together feelings and reflections gathered over nearly twenty years of raising children and contemplating the role of a woman within the family.

While working on the DZEN project, I strongly wished for it to exist beyond the city — closer to the forest and to nature. Thanks to the curator who helped make this possible, the exhibition was on view for a month at the Sabile Art, Culture and Tourism Centre, housed in the town’s former synagogue — a truly beautiful space.

The exhibition’s closing was marked by a performance that coincided with Easter, a symbolic time of moving toward light, renewal, and purification.

For a long time my mother dreamed of creating an exhibition together with her daughters and granddaughter. This exhibition brings that dream to life in Ogre History and Art Museum. We are three generations of women brought together through different artistic languages, all reflecting on presence, womanhood, and human connection.

My mother works in sculpture, my sister in textile, my daughter in painting, and I in photography.
